Two Hobbit Films

Wednesday, December 19, 2007

After months of getting the legal part sorted, director Peter Jackson, New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios have announced that they will be making two movies based on the book "The Hobbit" by one of my favourite authors, J R R Tolkien.

There still seems to be a lot of technical bits that they need to sort, but I for one am reasonably excited about the upcoming new filsm, as Peter Jackson is sure to bring us a stunning creation, just like his previously directed "Lord of the Rings". Although, I’m not gona hold my breath. They’re aiming at like 2 or 3 years, but it seem Jackson has his hands full with current projects already.

The films are estimated to cost around US$150 to US$200 million each and both will be made simultaneously in New Zealand. It will only start in 2009 though, guess next year is where all the creative beforehand bits will get sorted out like finding the best screenwriter. Man, what I wouldn’t give to be considered a screen writer for these new soon to be hits

A bit of a money saver is most likely on the special effects which can be reused from the previous “Lord of the Rings” movies. I’m curious to see though, if any of the characters will be seen in The Hobbit and just how badly those actors are gona be wanted.

A little more about The Hobbit. This series proceeded “Lord of the Rings”, which Tolkien made some mega bucks off when it was made into 3 fantastic movies. The main character is Bilbo Baggins, a little hobbit who lives in a fantasy world inhabited by elves, dwarves and wizards. I must admit though, usually an avid reader, I haven’t had time to do much reading as of late and I have not yet had the pleasure of reading this myself, but am sure it’s delightfully good.

Look forward to these upcoming movies!
