LG KU990 Viewty
Wednesday, January 02, 2008Ok so I’ve officially cancelled my mobile phone contract… all I need to do now is phone up the pay as you go department and request my new sim card. Thing is, after my
XDA Mini, I really cannot find a PDA that really jumps at me… well, one that is affordable anyway, I meant the Nokia is just splendid, I like the design, the bulkyness of it. Sounds odd I know, but I’ve always liked either a really, really bulky or a really, really tiny phone. Extremes
So then I thought, hey, I’ve got everything I want in my
XDA Mini, (seriously, it’s like an extension of me) why would I switch to using a ‘normal’ phone? LOL Here’s why… my better half renewed her mobile phone contract last week and I got to open it up and play with it during the day while I was at home slacking

And that new phone feeling, sigh, that’s why. By the way, she got the Nokia N95, an absolute awesome phone I must say and will be reviewing it, probably tomorrow.

So I got to looking and found a phone which instantly made my heart skip a beat. The LG Viewty. If I even say the name in my head, it makes my knees wobble

It’s a pretty awesome phone and I can’t really say why I fell in love with it so quickly, I mean it doesn’t even have
Wi-Fi, and that is usually a must have when I look at any electronic device,
especially a mobile phone. So let’s start with what it does actually do.

Now the LG Viewty is the
LG Prada’s successor and after seeing that if I were to switch to the LG Viewty, I’d be paying for a mobile phone package which I
really don’t need, I decided to go on the hunt for something similar and found that the LG Prada, was much to my liking. Will be reviewing the
LG Prada’s this week too.
Anyway, I for one will most likely not be getting the LG Viewty, really because it’s just not in my budget at the moment. Don’t get me wrong, it’s well worth the money, it’s just that I no longer have the need for all those minutes and it’ll be such a waste if I keep myself on a mobile contract.

Let’s get back to the phone on hand. If I was able to live with the guilt, it’d definitely be this phone. I think what jumped at me first is the design. I was watching
Moonlight a few weeks ago and noticed the lead character using his mobile phone, which I think was the new
iPhone which I for one didn’t even want to review it, guess I’m just not an
iPod person. Anyway, it was the design which jumped out at me. I like the 3-inch 262,144 colour touchscreen monitor. It’s really nice and big, allowing you to fully enjoy movies, pics, internet browsing or what ever else you’re doing. The LG Viewty comes with a pen for the touch screen, but the phone seems to respond pretty well to your fingers too. The response time for the screen is also a lot better than most touch screens and it even gives off a small vibration when you touch the screen, just so you know you’ve touched or tapped it hard enough.
I for one don’t usually use any mobile phone or PDA’s camera much, mostly because my better half loves taking photos and is quite good at it and also usually has either our digital camera or her own mobile phone camera with. But the LG Viewty does have a nice 5 megapixel camera and if you place it on it’s side, it actually looks just like a real camera from the back. Around the camera lens is a scroll wheel, used for zooming, which I think also adds a nice touch to the gadget factor.
So all in all, I guess I like the LG Viewty because of the onscreen keyboard. I suppose having a
QWERTY keyboard which slides out is very handy, as on my
PDA and I’ve gotten way too use to it to go without it and it seems that the LG Viewty’s onscreen keypad works on the same principle, except well, for it being onscreen. This would have been a great addition to my gadget collection

But I am pleasantly surprised that
LG Electronics has made a collection of mobile phones I can get on bored with
Happy Shopping!
