Voltaic Messenger Laptop Bag

Thursday, February 21, 2008

Ok so I’ve done one or two reviews on laptop bags / carry cases before, but this one is definitely something to consider. Well, mostly if you’re travelling with your laptop I suppose, or if you just want to brag about a very expensive and gadgety bag.

The Voltaic Messenger is a very protective laptop carry case or bag. It has reinforced padding, for ultimate laptop protection against those bumps and scrapes. And as most laptop bags now have, it has large zipped pockets and lots of smaller ones, for documents, CD’s or any other devices you might need to carry with you. There’s also an optional phone or MP3 pouch, which can be attached to the strap. I personally don’t like these though, I don’t see why make it easier for some one to steal your phone right off of you. But back to the matter on hand.

The Voltaic Messenger isn’t just another multi pocketed laptop bag, it actually has 3 built in 4 watts of solar panels which will charge your laptop for you. An included battery pack will store power for when you need to charge your laptop. They’ve also included 11 different adaptors, which is not only handy for your laptop, but other electrical devices as well. I definitely see myself taking my PDA and PSP with me on this road trip It charges all types of electronics though, this includes iPods, cameras, GPS, etc.

The padded laptop sleeve is adjustable, so it can fit laptops with screens up to 15 inches. There are wire channels all throughout the bag for your power cables and headphones. The fabric is tough, water resistant and quite light weight. Oh and when they say water resistant, we’re looking at giving the laptop the most protection against the elements, still doesn’t mean you should still try to keep it out of harms way. The whole bag weighs around 3.25 lbs which isn’t too bad, considering it’s the whole battery pack and solar panels too.

Around 4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight will give you enough power to charge a mobile phone. The batteries are a Li-Ion battery pack with a 3 voltage setting, which can store solar power. The nice thing about this solar powered laptop case that charges not just laptops, is that it also comes with a AC charger and DC car charger and even a USB adaptor, so that if need be, you can charge it that way, should you be out of sunlight Or just in your car I suppose.

A very expensive laptop case that’s for sure, but it sure does have it’s advantages. I’m in no position at the moment to need it, but if I ever do, I’ll be investing in it. It’s great for those who travel a lot, business or otherwise.

Happy Shopping!
