Magnetized Liquid PC Adapts to Special Needs
Wednesday, February 27, 2008I sometimes sit and wonder what life must be like for a disabled person. Having had a deaf relative, I could see that it was hard for them, but they managed to cope. Ok, they did live in a very small town, with a close knit community, so that really helped. But I think to be blind, must be worse. I don’t mean to be insensitive or say which sense is better than the other, but for me personally, I would far worse fear being blind than deaf. I find myself wondering if my eye sight were to ever fail me, at an elderly age, would I be able to go on without my PC? Considering the amount of time I spend on it, it’s strange now to think of a life without that kind of technology.

That is why, when I came across this Magnetized Liquid PC I was intrigued. This Magnetized Liquid PC, created by Siafu, adapts to the special needs of people with vision loss. The concept itself was designed by Jonathan Lucas. What it is, is basically a magnetized, liquid (as the name states) interaction by touch. This magneclay or magnetized liquid, is an oil based synthetic agent which has the ability to morph and through electromagnetic fields will actually allow the surface to morph upwards, mimicking images (basically putting the photo into 3D), creating
braille or even whole webpages. There is a lot of technical info on the Magnetized Liquid PC, but to sum it up, it is constructed to allow the person using to touch and explore the magneclay structure, without it loosing the desired form.

I will definitely be keeping an eye on this product, curious to see exactly how easily some one with vision loss could interact with it.
