Belkin Wireless G Router
Thursday, April 10, 2008Wireless network connections are suppose to make our lives easier, are they not? I still remember envying my fellow LANNING buddy for his cool 8 port hub we used while blowing the stuffing out of each other during MOHAA
So we started off with the
D-Link wireless ADSL router which worked ok but did have one or two
problems, but it wasn’t so bad, having to restart the router every so often, just by unplugging it. Since then we’ve had our hands full trying to get a proper wireless home network going. Having moved and switched to a cable broadband connection we had to get a new
router which worked fine except that it had a really bad wireless range and it seemed to just get worse. After a while, I couldn’t even use my
PDA at all, not even by holding it right next to the
router. So much for our great deal on the darn thing. So we ended up using just the LAN ports, which did it’s job until a couple of weeks ago when it suddenly totally failed us, not letting the internet connection get through to any connected PC. So on the hunt for a wireless router again, we managed to get a one from a friend only to realise that this one had no LAN ports at all. This wouldn’t do, as one of the desktops needs a constant wired connection. Anyway, we finally set off to the store on Saturday and bought ourselves the Belkin Wireless G Router.

The Belkin 802.11b Wireless G Router uses the wireless 54g 2.4GHz standard which offers up to 1800 feet range. This one is specifically designed for home use. There are 4 integrated Ethernet ports to allow a wired LAN connection to the router. If you read up on the Belkin Wireless G Router it’ll boast that you can be online in just a few minutes, as it has an easy install Wizard which automatically detects your Internet settings. That is true, it was reasonably easy to use. We did have to do a little search on one or two of the instructions though.
The Belkin Wireless G Router uses NAT firewall for network protection and to ensure network and data security it has wireless 64 and 128 bit WEP and WPA encryption.

In the box you’ll get the router and it’s power supply along with the installation CD, instructions and a network cable to connect the router to your modem. It’s small and lightweight, more so than any of ours previous routers, making it easier for me to keep it perched up on high
I’ll keep using it and should I encounter any problems, I’ll be sure to post about it along with a link HERE.
Happy Shopping!
