Nokia N800 Internet Tablet

Wednesday, August 22, 2007

Nokia has always personally been my favourite mobile phone brand. Simply because of their reliability as well as their durability. I once had my very trusty Nokia 3310 fall out of my pocket while driving my four wheeler. It bounced on the tar road a few times, flew into a couple of pieces, but I managed to find everything, put it back together and other than a few scratches, it was still as good as new. It worked fine, nothing wrong with it. The one reason though, that I haven’t owned a Nokia in a while is simply because I always thought it a little plain. Before my Mini XDA I had a 3G Sanyo. I like gadgets. I like ‘flippy’ phones, phones that twist and turn, have qwerty keypads and more than one camera in. As long as it meets my gadget expectations, and has a sleek looking design also helps

I must say, I applaud Nokia for their latest addition. I haven’t had my hands on it yet, but it is definitely my next must have gadget. The Nokia N800 Internet Tablet not only looks very appealing, but it has some awesome features. It has all the standard internet and email features, but what makes this phone stand out is the Skype capabilities. With the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet users are now able to make Skype Internet calls with their mobile phone. Boasting an integrated webcam, this little darling, I daresay, will probably make my own PDA old news

The Nokia N800 Internet Tablet has an impressive high-resolution widescreen display, combined with the ultra-slim design, will make using it quite enjoyable. It has high quality speakers, to accommodate the integrated media player. The VoIP capabilities using Skype just blows my mind. This is probably the best of its features, for my preference anyway. You can conference call on the go. The Nokia N800 Internet Tablet also has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, making Web connectivity a little easier. My current PDA has a great MSN feature but falls short poorly with Yahoo messenger. It seems though, that the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet will provide better support for instant messaging (not that they’ve not already raised the bar quite a bit with their Skype feature). Along with the dual expansion slots (for SD cards), for added memory, there will also be an RSS news reader.

The Nokia N800 Internet Tablet has a built in kickstand, so you can put it on display to ooh and aah over… Or of course, for when you’re conferencing The phone is also touch screen and offers a protective soft case for the screen and is unfortunately prone to smudges, but provides a stylus for easier touch typing. On the top left of the screen, you’ll find the four way direction keypad along with an OK centre button. It also has an escape key, menu button and program swap key (allowing you to switch between programs). There are zoom buttons which allows for full-screen mode and the power button. But all these buttons are awkwardly close together and might take some getting use to navigating them.

If you’re willing to part with around £200, along with the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet you will also receive a USB cable, travel charger, soft case, 128MB Mini SD card (with extender), wired headset and users guide. Once my current contract runs out, I think I might even be willing to get one of those ridiculously expensive packages, just to get my hands on one of these. The Nokia N800 Internet Tablet will definitely be a great addition to my growing gadget collection!

Happy Shopping!
