Mini Stitch Sewing Machine
Wednesday, August 22, 2007May not sound like the worlds best gadget, but what else you gona do if your favourite shirt tears? Or if you discover that awkward tear in your best pair of trousers 15min before the big night out? It's handy to have in any case. Although, with a four page instruction manual, it's not for newbies. Unless you've used a sewing machine before or are willing to struggle alongside Google (or your gran if you're lucky) it'll be tricky to just whip it out and start with the stitching. It took me all in all about 30min to start fixing my favourite pair of black trousers for Saturday night and I had home ec in high school. Albeit, a couple of years back, it should be like riding a bike... right? Anyway, the manual's not very thorough, except telling you that the Mini Stitch is not a toy. But once you get the hang of it, it's very easy to use. I've been scrounging through my cupboard looking for something to fix!
It's small and compact and comes in different colours. My one flat mate got herself her very own beige and pink Mini Stitch. The size is convenient, as it stores easily, what with London's small flats is a definite plus. Do not be fooled by stores selling it at a reduced price for only 14.99 from 19.99 (pounds). As soon as I saw that I grabbed it off that shelf, only to see that the drugstore across the street had it for 7.99! Well at least my flat mate scored with that one.
These are the specs. Noting too fancy, just your basic needle and thread (& a cute detachable foot pedal).
Features
-Operates from included mains adaptor or 4xAA batteries (not included)
-Two speed control
-Includes 4 bobbins, a needle and threader
-Foot pedal included

I suppose it's handy to have the battery option, not that I'd waste any of mine, as my camera is my number one priority with my very precious battery life. As it has an on and off switch, you won't even need the foot peddle, which I'd imagine is great if you're going to be sewing in an enclosed area, otherwise I'd advice to stick to the pedal, much easier to control your stitching.
I'd say for a couple of quid, the Mini Stitch Sewing Machine is a pretty good buy and not too bad on the gadgetzy scale.
Happy Shopping!
