802.11b 4-Port 11 Mbps Wireless Router - Cable WiF
Wednesday, August 22, 2007We recently moved into a studio flat, which was a very long and exhausting move but I was very pleased with my new broadband provider who I had arranged with to install my new cable broadband the very next morning. Although, my elation was short lived as I soon realised that our previous
Wireless router was for ASDL only. Cable broadband was definitely a better move for us, you don’t need a phone line which is great, as it cuts out the cost of a line rental.

So as some of you might not know, you can’t use any previous
Wireless router, as it needs to be cable or ASDL compatible, which ever you need. We picked up this 802.11b 4-Port 11 Mbps Wireless Router - Cable WiFi on eBay this weekend and got it for a really good deal. Oh and just FYI, the price of all Wireless Routers has dropped considerably in the past year as we paid a small fortune for our first
D-Link DSL-G624T 54Mbps Wireless ADSL2+ router and nowadays, previous
Wireless routers can be picked up brand new for quite cheap. So we sold our
D-Link DSL-G624T 54Mbps Wireless ADSL2+ router for a fraction of what we originally paid for it. Anyhow, the original owner was selling this virtually new 802.11b 4-Port 11 Mbps Wireless Router - Cable WiFi because he himself couldn’t get it to work. He claimed it was probably due to his lack of PC knowledge and assured a full refund should it be faulty.
It took me a while, a little RTFS (read the fu****g screen) and it worked just fine. The installation CD simply has the user manual and there is no installation process, you simply plug it in and configure it’s settings, which granted, can be tricky if you aren’t familiar with
Wireless routers or networking or have trouble – and a lack of patience – to follow instructions, as I do

It works alongside your existing ASDL or cable modem, simply plugging the Ethernet cable into the 802.11b 4-Port 11 Mbps Wireless Router - Cable WiFi and then from there, connecting it to the intended PC’s via
wireless and also, LAN connections. It has four LAN ports. I have only just started using it and as yet, no signs of any problems yet, but I do have one complaint about it and that is that the signal quality is quite low which is frustrating as my PDA struggles to pick it up in all parts of our, studio flat, which is small and really the router should have better signal quality. I do intend to try to rectify this… some how. (watch this space for more info in the future on low signal quality)

For the cost these
Wireless routers are going for nowadays, it’s just silly not to own one!
Happy Shopping!
