Flyclear
Wednesday, August 22, 2007I found something which I found quite interesting and thought I’d share it. Flyclear is a new way of dealing with airport security and even though it sounds great, it’s still not available worldwide. It’s only available in a few airports throughout the USA. Hopefully all will go well and one day soon this will be implemented on a wider basis. I’m still not 100% on the exact details, but I’ll share what I know with you.
Flyclear is basically a pre-screened security biometric card which has all your details on its chip. For a yearly fee, you’ll be allowed to pass through security faster at airports, well only at the registered airports that is. There are only a couple throughout the USA so far, but I think this might change in the future and more and more airports will join Flyclear. With your Flyclear card, it’ll only take a few minutes to get through security, which eliminates the long lines and will also entitle you to enjoy the designated security lane with special benefits (although I haven’t been able to sniff out exactly what those benefits are as of yet).

The yearly fee is US$99.95 , which includes a TSA vetting fee of US$28.00. A TSA vetting fee is charged by the federal Transportation Security Administration for vetting (or screening) registered traveller applicants. A thorough security check will be done on you and your family. A lot of high level security checks nowadays screen you, your partner or spouse along with your parents and should they be divorced, their new partners as well. Of course I’m not 100% sure exactly what the TSA require, but most likely something along the same lines.
I suppose this is good for anyone doing a lot of travelling in the USA, within the registered airports that is. I’m still unsure myself, as to whether I think Flyclear is a good system or not, I think time will tell. Just in case any flaws come up with it. And until it’s more widely available, I suppose I won’t be able to test it out either.
Happy Shopping!
