Nostromo P45

Tuesday, September 04, 2007

I’m not much of a console games player, I do prefer gaming on a PC, not only is the mouse and keyboard much more efficient, as it’s easier to navigate and gives you more control over your game play, but it’s just easier to upgrade your PC to match the latest games on the market. Although, there are times I do miss the feel of a controller in my hand. I thought I’d review the Nostromo P45 controller for PS2.

It has a very attractive design. There is an action stabilizer bar attached to the controller mean to ground the controller against your thigh or other nearby surface. I for one do sometimes slouch when playing, but doubt whether this will be of any use. Still makes it look a little unique from other controllers, but you can just unscrew it from your controller I think. The Nostromo P45 is bigger than a standard PS2 controller, but the front triggers are a little tricky to reach.

There is a mode button which offers an additional feature to the basic analog mode on the Sony controller. A steering mode which simulates the movements of a steering wheel, which is the left analog stick while the right analog sticks acts as the accelerator. This is a great feature, even though I’m all for my keyboard and mouse game play now, doesn’t mean I didn’t develop my thumbs for awesome gaming skills while playing Nintendo as a kid. There is only major drawback and that is that most PS2 games just don’t support this feature, which is a real dampener. The Nostromo P45 also has a macro button which is an enhancement specifically for fighting games. By using a combination of the macro button along with the X O Square and triangle, you can program a sequence of up to fifteen movements. This is nice as it means you only need one button to execute your moves. The Nostromo P45 does have a great rumble feature, making your game play a little more authentic. Well as authentic as it can be sitting on your butt on your couch at home, all comfy while trying to simulate a high speed race or death tournament

I personally think there are slightly better controllers out there. I’ll be looking at some more later this week.

Happy shopping!
